The Pathogen-Host-Environment Interactions Research Laboratory (PHEIRL) would like to congratulate Ms. Laurice Beatrice Raphaelle O. Dela Peña for being one of the selected participants of “ASIAME 3: Third South Asia Workshop in Aquatic Microbial Ecology” at The International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education in Quy Nhon, Vietnam held last June 19-29, 2023.

The general objective of the two-week programme on thematic school ASIAME3 is to bring together young environmentalists (students and scientists) from South Asia and South-East Asia working in the field of the microbial ecology of marine ecosystems focusing on both fundamental (biogeochemical cycles, biodiversity, environment) and applied (aquaculture, marine biotechnologies) aspects. This school mixes conferences, practical training, and data analysis. It also includes preparation of research projects and future collaborations.

During ASIAME3, participants engage in lectures, tutorials, fieldwork, and hands-on training in various fields such as aquatic and marine microbiology, oceanography, and metabarcoding. In addition, it encourages networking and interdisciplinary collaborations among the participants, enabling them to address pressing marine science challenges collectively.

Ms. Dela Peña had the opportunity to be expand her knowledge and skills in her field of expertise. It provided her exposure to new research and techniques, as well as opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field. We are thrilled to see her reached yet another milestone and eagerly anticipate the valuable contributions she brings back to the laboratory and to the country.
