The faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University organized The Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting 2022 (JITMM 2022), a hybrid conference with the theme: “Leveraging the Pandemic Experience: Our Tropical Medicine Community Rejuvenated” at the Montien Surawong Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand last December 7-9, 2022. The hybrid conference hosted various sessions that highlighted the activities, discoveries, lessons-learned, and opportunities related to the pandemic. In addition, the conference discussed the future of tropical medicine and public-health research post-pandemic. The Pathogen-Host-Environment Interactions Research Laboratory (PHEIRL) was invited to present their poster presentations and oral presentations, headed by Dr. Windell L. Rivera.

Ms. Chembie A. Almazar, M.Sc. presented their research poster entitled “DNA Aptamer selection through Cell-SELEX for the Detection of Leptospirosis”, while Mr. Rance Derrick N. Pavon presented another research poster entitled “Molecular Serotyping by Phylogenetic Analyses of a 1498 bp Segment of the invA Gene of Salmonella”.

Mrs. Marjo V. Mendoza, M.Sc. presented their oral research presentation entitled “Development of an aptamer-based sandwich assay for the detection of Leptospirosis”. Mr. Pavon presented another oral research presentation entitled “Genotypic virulence profiles and associations in Salmonella isolated from meat samples in wet markets and abattoirs of Metro Manila, Philippines”
