#PHEIRLxNationalBiotechnologyWeek2022

On November 21-25, 2022, the Department of Agriculture Biotech Program Office (DABIOTECH) held its annual celebration of National Biotechnology Week at the Philippine Trade Training Center, Pasay City. This year was themed “Responding to the Challenges: Business Opportunities in Biotechnology” with several physical exhibits, programs and seminars showcasing innovative technologies to encourage investments from private sectors and increase public awareness of the benefits and impact of biotechnology. The Pathogen-Host-Environment Interactions Research Laboratory (PHEIRL) was invited to present brochures covering the research project headed by Dr. Davin Edric V. Adao and funded by DABIOTECH involving the development of a Loop-mediated amplification (LAMP) method for the rapid and cost-efficient detection of Salmonella, a foodborne disease-causing bacteria, which is crucial to maintain food safety and public health in the Philippines.

Ms. Khristine B. Balaga and Mr. Rance Derrick N. Pavon are PHEIRL researchers assigned to the development, optimization, and evaluation of LAMP for Salmonella detection. They are also accompanied by Ms. Jonah B. Mora and Ms. Vanessa Yvonne B. Meclat who are working with Salmonella genomics, another project funded by DABIOTECH, to participate in the said event.
