#PHEIRLxLSHTM
Last June 10, 2022, our collaborators from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) paid a visit to the Pathogen-Host-Environment Interactions Research Laboratory (PHEIRL) at the Institute of Biology (IB), College of Science, University of the Philippines Diliman. The LSHTM Team, led by Dr. Taane Clark and accompanied by Dr. Martin Hibberd, Dr. Jody Phelan, and Dr. Julius Hafalla, conducted their first tour in their collaborators in the Philippines since the pandemic from June 9 β to June 16, 2022. Their Philippine collaborators include the Philippine Genome Center, Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, and Pampanga State Agricultural University. They first visited the Institute of Biology in collaboration with the ππππππππππ genomics project, led by Dr. Windell Rivera. Ms. Jonah Mora, the lead researcher, presented their progress on the project βUsing genomics to trace ππππππππππ transmission and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the poultry and swine food chains in Metropolitan Manila, Philippines.β
ππππππππππ Genomics is a three-year project study that first to use a genomic approach (whole-genome sequencing) to determine genomic variation among π. πππ‘πππππ isolated during pre- and post-slaughter of swine and chicken and uses this to understand the transmissibility and drug resistance of π. πππ‘πππππ isolates.
